Menu design for local restaurant.
This was another class project for my Typography class. We were to make or re-design a menu for a restaurant. I chose to do Susie’s Branding Iron, a local restaurant located in Moab, UT. My main goal was to increase organization and make it easier to quickly scan. I chose a simple layout and western style type to help achieve this. The sideways type and bold heading helps separate the sections and make them easy to find.
For the cover, I decided to go with a boot stitch pattern since the restaurant has a cowboy theme to it. The worn edge look on the interior is just to add to the rustic feel of the restaurant. For the type on the cover, I found a font that looks similar to what an actual cattle brand looks like.
Printing
Part of this project was to create a physical menu. I had a simple bi-fold menu so there wasn’t a lot of crazy production needed. I did print on both a matte and semi-gloss paper, favoring the semi-gloss slightly more because of the color. Prior to printing the final piece, I printed many test pieces to make sure type size and placement was looking right in print form.
